What really matters to us?

  Whether people in Taiwan think they are Chinese or not is least
relevant to the issue whether Taiwan should become an independent
state or or not. Just like some Singaporeans may think they are also
Chinese, they can have their own country, too.
  I think what really matters to most Taiwanese now is that they enjoy
the economic and political freedom they've worked hard to make
that happen and are most unwillingly to give that up to a government
that seems so "foreign" to them.
