Taiwan and the Independence

I have read a few letters on your webpage; expressions of many minds, many
hopes, many frustrations.

I am from Bangladesh, a country in the South Asia endowed with political,
economical problems and moreover, a freequent target of man made and natural
disasters.

Very recently I have celebrated my 1st year of residency in Taiwan. I am a
proud observer of the peaceful, democratic change of power in Taiwan.

I happened to work with people very much committed to the 'dislikings' of
the past ruler, present opposition KMT and others not agreed with them on
Taiwan issue.

The past KMT regime has been so successful in brain washing that 'Democracy
and Independence of a state' is in a well designed safety box.

Politician talks a lot, every where. Talks for different ideas and values
often errupts among public too. A patriot should talk sense.

When Taiwan holds the official name of R.O.C. which means REPUBLIC OF CHINA
how can any one in this island or anywhere in the world claim TAIWAN is a
Sovereign, an Independent country? Do you know still your government press
releases contain the name "Republic of China on Taiwan" ? why do you have a
"Tibetan and Mongolian Affairs Council" ? With, Chen Shui-Bian the
president, whether Taiwan is an independent country is still a thought
provoking debate.

As long as the identity of the citizens of this Island is not confirmed by
themsleves - hegemonists would only keep damaging the civilization and
humanity. My sincerest hope is that, you people, the Taiwanese would be able
to establsih your Independence and Sovereignty without much blood shed. May
