In response to the NHK's complaint
Dear Dr. Lin,
This is in response to the NHK's complaint. I did hear a little about
NHK's report on Taiwan's "Name Rectification Demonstration on September 6th"
in Washington DC area at 6:30 to 6:55 PM local time evening news.
Unfortunately I came too late to catch anything of substance from the report
this time. I am not too concerned about this. But from what I heard in the
last couple(?) sentences, the NHK editorial staff's comment on the event as
"A-tsu-kai ga warui.." seems genuine. As I mentioned in a previous
communication with your "Formosa no koe," NHK may not be proud of their
coverage in this respect when compared to the BBC report.
Nowadays, I listen to the NHK report only intermittently during the
commercial breaks between the major news of the NBC evening news. This,
however, does not mean all NHK reports are trash. The content in general I
hear today is totally different from what I used to know about the NHK
reports that were comparable to the world class broadcast. Especially when
the matter relating Formosa to China today, the often quoted "Koshi-nuke"
attitude reflecting the Japanese politics (since Tanake, I think) appears
true to a Formosan listener like me. Most NHK news I hear nowadays give me
an extremely frustrating feeling of being unable to scratch the very itchy
spot of my own body.
